Product Description

Alendronate Sodium

Alendronate Sodiumis a second-generation bisphosphonate that contains nitrogen. Bisphosphonate was first used in the treatment of Paget s disease in 1971. This class of medication comprises inorganic pyrophosphate analogues containing non-hydrolyzable P-C-P bonds. Just like other bisphosphonates, chemical compound has a high affinity for bone mineral and is taken up during osteoclast resorption. Alendronate slows down farnesyl pyrophosphate synthetase. It is an enzymein the mevalonic acid pathway involved in the production of isoprenoid compounds, essential for post-translational modification of small guanosine triphosphate (GTP)-binding proteins, like Rho, Ras and Rab. Inhibition of this process interferes with function and survival of osteoclast. Alendronate is used to treat osteoporosis and Paget s disease.
